What is the My Disney Experience App and why do I need it?

So, I am a travel agent and as soon as I book a client’s Disney World trip, I send them information about creating a My Disney Experience account. It is the essential online account you need for your Disney World vacation.

If you’d like more information about Walt Disney World–check out my page that contains information and links to pages and posts all about Disney World vacation planning.

There are two places where you will use My Disney Experience–on the Disney World website and in the My Disney Experience app.

We are only looking at the app version in the article. There are some things that you will have to use the website to do like ordering MagicBands, but most things can or must be done in the app.

Let’s look at each part of the app from the bottom menu:

Home

When you first open the app–this is where you land. You can find links to many things including:

  • Purchasing Lightning Lanes
  • Disney Genie Service
  • Upcoming reservations
  • Daily park hours
  • Information about current events and festivals
  • Disney Photo Pass
  • Annual Passholder informaiton
  • Play Disney Parks app link
  • Disney Store link

Things in this list can change and vary but some will always be visible here on the home screen.

Location/Map

This is probably one of my most used parts of the app. It defaults to “Wait Times”. You can zoom in and out and move across Disney property to see all parks and wait times from the screen. You can also change it to list screen and filter to the park(s) that you want to see.

Across the top, you can toggle to see dining options. This is also great to go to list view and filter to the area you are wanting to make dining reservations, join a waitlist, look at a menu, or mobile order your food.

Other menu options for the map feature include:

  • Attractions
  • Entertainment
  • Characters
  • Restrooms
  • Shops
  • Transportation
  • Guest Services
  • Events and Tours
  • Photo Pass (locations)
  • Resort Hotels

If you choose Guest Services, there are a lot of icons that will show up. You can use the list view to get a key for what each icon represents.

Before your trip, take some time to familiarize yourself with the map feature and how it can benefit you and your travel party during your trip.

Plus

This menu is for taking action. Ready to eat–use this menu to check dining availability or order food via mobile ordering. Shopping and ready to check out–use Merchandise Mobile Checkout if you are in a location that offers mobile checkout.

You can also shop Memory Maker, purchase tickets for parks or special events, make or modify park reservations, or go to My Genie Day and the Tip Board. This is the one stop menu for doing all the things.

Search

This one is pretty self-explanatory, but if you are looking for something in particular–here is an easy search for you to use.

Sometimes if I’m in a hurry or can’t find what I’m looking for–this is an easy way to find what I want quickly.

Hamburger (the three lines)

This menu has links to a lot of different things. Some of which we’ve already discussed above. Others are only found here.

I use this menu when I have multiple reservations and what to see everything–use the Future Plans link. Hotel Reservations will only show your upcoming stay but not any coming after.

There is a link to your Photo Gallery along with PhotoPass lenses. These lenses are included when you purchase Lightning Lane MultiPass and/or Single Pass.

Be sure to use the Cast Compliment link whenever you have a memorable experience with a Disney Cast member. It’s a great way to show your appreciation.

Other links on this menu include:

  • My Tickets & Passes
  • Lightning Lane Passes
  • Reserve Dining
  • Order Food
  • Merchandise Checkout
  • Wait Times and Show Times
  • Today’s Plans
  • Virtual Queue (if applicable)
  • Car Locator
  • Transportation and Parking
  • Buy Tickets and Passes
  • Park Reservations
  • Park Hours & Info
  • Account Links (Profile, Link to Account, MagicBands & Cards, Set up MagicMobile Entry)
  • Help and Feedback links (including Cast Compliments)
